Those parts were in the TGM Guide before I decided it was too long and confusing in the forementionned guide. It should focus on gameplay, not on running clones.

Heboris

Another solution is to look for unofficial clones. Heboris U.E. is one of them, and arguably one of the best (if not THE best). "U.E." stands for "Unofficial Expansion". Heboris U.E. is a mod of the original Heboris, which was already a decent TGM2 clone. The expansion brings more features including different rotations systems, rule options, modes, and a new graphics interface. You can easily simulate TGM1, 2 or 3 although the accuracy of these simulations is questionable.

Because of an obscure affair relating to the withdrawal of Heboris videos on Youtube and Nicovideo by Arika, Heboris and its Expansion was no longer available for some time. Work on UE resumed since, but the original game is nowhere to be found. I still host the relevant files (original binaries and expansion).

About Hebris U.E. legal status: it's in the gray line. I'll keep hosting it until someone tel me not to do so. After all, there's no better introduction to a game, especially Tetris, than to play them.

Installation

If you downloaded the file from me, you just have to unzip the file into the same folder (hebo160a.zip first, then hebo0562.zip - overwrite all), then run it (HEBORIS.EXE). That's a windows program, and it can runs on Wine if you're a Linux user. Recently, development has been restarted on the SDL port of Heboris U.E. C7V4 for the Mac. Check for new releases on the Heboris Uploader.

Vital Configuration FAQ

How can I change the default resolution ?
Go to Settings. Note that resolution changes have been known to cause some instability (it works flawlessly at 1024x768 (windowed) with my gaming rig but crashes with my older PC).

How can I change the default controls ?
Go to Settings > Input. Joystick/gamepad buttons can also be mapped. Sadly, the default keys for movement are bound to X/Y-axis and cannot be mapped. If your stick or gamepad don't have such things (such as my VSHG), or if you want digital button to be mapped for movement, this problem can be circumvented by using Joy2Key

Play

Rotation systems

When you first select "Solo mode", you'll be prompted to select your rotation system.

HEBORIS corresponds to the original TGM/TAP rotation system.

TI-ARS correspond to the Classic rotation system from TGM3. It is very similar to the Heboris rotation system, but easier to use due to permissive floorkicks for the I and T tetromino.
TI-WORLD corresponds to the World rotation system from TGM3. It is an implementation of SRS(Super Rotation System).

ACE-SRS corresponds to the original default rotation system from TGM-ACE.
ACE-ARS and ACE-ARS2 corresponds to the ARS and ARS2 from TGM-ACE. Both of them are frankenstein mixes of SRS rotation and TGM rotation.

DS-WORLD corresponds to the SRS compliant rules of Tetris DS. Except you don't have the annoying Mario theme music.

D.R.S. is an experimental rotation system from another Tetris clone (DTET).

SRS-X is an experimental SRS featuring zangi techniques.

Refer to the Heboris U.E. Rules Variation table for more information regarding the different rotation systems.

You'll want to stick with HEBORIS and TI-ARS for now.

Game mode

After selecting a rotation system, you'll be prompt to choose a mode to play. Variations of each mode can be selected by pressing left and right.

Beginner (SC/TA)
Beginner SC(Score) and Beginner TA(Tamaya) seek to clone "Normal" and "Easy" mode from TAP and TGM3 respectively.

Master (#G1/#G2/#G3/#G4)
Master mode seeks to clone the mode of the same name from TGM, TAP and TGM3. #G1 corresponds with TGM default, #G2 corresponds with TGM3 Master with a slow speedup, #G3 corresponds with TAP Master, and #G4 corresponds with TGM3 Master.

20G #G1/#G2/#G3/#G4
20G mode is the same as Master mode with gravity starting at 20G. This mode seeks to replicate the 20G cheat in the TGM series.

Devil (MINUS/DOOM)
The "T.A. Death" and "Shirase" mode from TAP and TGM3 respectively. This mode is not for the faint of heart nor for the beginners.

Tomoyo FP/TI/EH/TGT/Edit/
The puzzle (or Sakura††) mode from Flashpoint, TGM3, Tetris with Card Captor Sakura, TGM ACE, and an edit mode (user created), respectively.

There's also others mode from TGM ACE and others game, but I don't know/don't want to know what they are. (Subject to change)

†† lolzor, pun.
