Tetris Plus 2 is an arcade game by Jaleco and the sequel to Tetris Plus. It features endless, puzzle, and versus modes.

On November 1, 2019, it was re-released on the AtGames Legends Ultimate Arcade, and updated Legends Flashback.

Gameplay

There's a bug in Jaleco PCB which piece phases inside playfield blocks when spawning a Tetromino.[1]

Modes

Endless Mode

Endless Mode is divided into chapters. To clear a chapter, the player must either complete the background picture by making clears of 2 lines or more, or collect all the letters by clearing corresponding pieces in a single line clear.

There are 22 unique chapters, shuffled randomly. Once all 22 chapters are finished, they will appear again in different order.

There are three difficulty settings:

  • Easy - Start at level 0 and play up to chapter 4.
  • Normal - Start at level 10.
  • Hard - Start at level 30.

Puzzle Mode

Puzzle mode is similar to the one in Tetris Plus, except with it has a branching path structure. Beginning with a choice of four stage (each stage containing two levels), one selects the next stage after completing the previous one. There are 26 stages total, but only 7 stages (or 8 if holding a crystal ball) can be played each run.

Versus Mode

2 Players battle into 2 game modes, with 3 choices. Item box does exist, labeled 1, 2, or 3, which adds extra garbage written on number. it must be cleared without a trace within same line clear, otherwise it does not work.

  • Classic - Same as Normal Tetris.
  • Professor - Same as Battle Mode in Tetris Plus.
  • Assistant - Same as Battle Mode in Tetris Plus, except the character is replaced with the Assistant.

There's a bug in the Jaleco PCB which messes up a row on player 2 if 2 players simultaneously clearing line in Classic mode, as shown here:

Revisions

At least five revisions of the game exist.

  • Jaleco Mega System 32 (v1.0)

Unlike the revisions below, this revision has sprite scaling, transparency, and other graphical effects that improve the look of the game

  • Jaleco PCB - Japanese (v2.1, v2.2)

It may not be possible to set this version to free play, and some have said the game crashes if set to English.

    Can not enter test mode

Does not use EEPROM for saving high scores.

  • Jaleco PCB - World (v2.7, v2.8)

    Same hardware as Japanese versions

Test mode is accessible, and both Japanese and English can be selected.

Uses EEPROM, and high scores are saved.
