A misdrop is an unintentional tetromino placement. The most common form of misdrop is when the piece is placed one column either to the right or to the left of its intended position.

Though a misdrop can occasionally be exploited for T-spin rewards, it is usually detrimental to the player's game for several reasons. A misdrop may impact a player's speed negatively by forcing the player to rethink a course of action. It may also render a singleplayer or multiplayer setup unusable. A misdrop may also lead a player to top out if it occurs near the top of the screen and the player is unable to clear out.

A mis-drop may or may not leave an empty gap(s) on the playfield. A mis-drop that does leave a gap(s) can be fixed through several methods.

Slide Method

Some misdrops leave gaps that require only a simple slide to fix after soft dropping or firm dropping.

Garbage Method

Mis-drops can be treated as garbage. Build around the mis-drop to eliminate as many gaps as possible. Then, clear until you open the gap. Make sure to not overstack if you want to open the gap.
