Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov[a], born on April 16, 1955[1], created Tetris with Vadim Gerasimov and Dmitry Pavlovsky. Under his employment contract with the Soviet Academy of Sciences, he received a regular paycheque instead of royalties (similar to "work made for hire" under modern copyright law). He and Henk Rogers went on to found The Tetris Company in 1996.
Pajitnov worked for Microsoft from 1996 to 2005[2], designing games for MSN's Gaming Zone and Xbox Live Arcade[3][4].
He stays active in the game development community by judging competitions, and speaking at conferences.[5][6][7][8]
