Tetris.wiki is a wiki focused on creating Tetris related content. It was started by Myndzi in 2015. Over the years, thousands of contributions have been made documenting official and fan games in the series, uncovering game mechanics, and creating guides to improve playing.
History
Tetris Concept launch: 2005–2009
In May 2005, a player named Caffeine started the website and forum at tetrisconcept.com. In 2006, user Colour thief suggested a wiki be created, and Tetris wiki on tetrisconcept.com was born.
Tetris Concept shutdown: 2009–2012
Four years later in 2009, Caffeine announced that tetrisconcept.com would be shutting down. The forum would close permanently, and the wiki would be transfered over to wikia.com, a large ad supported site that hosts a variety of wikis. The new url was tetrisconcept.wikia.com, which was soon redirected to tetris.wikia.com. It now lives at tetris.fandom.com.
Around the same time, a user named Blink started a new Tetris community called Hard Drop. A link pointing to this new community replaced the now closed tetrisconcept.com forum. With permission from Caffeine, Blink created a new wiki based on the same content that tetrisconcept.wikia.com was.
Lasty, the three former members Muf, colour_thief, and DeHackEd created a new website in hopes of preserving all the content from tetrisconcept.com. He chose to use same name but with a different TLD—.net instead of .com—which created controversy and tension in the community. The new site, tetrisconcept.net, now hosted a continuation of the tetrisconcept.com forums and wiki. Because of the original wiki's content license, tetrisconcept.net was not required to ask for permission to fork the wiki.
Three wikis now existed based on the same content. Two controlled by community members, and one by an ad supported company.
Wiki merge movement: 2013–2015
Around 2013, Myndzi launched a new wiki at tetriswiki.com based on an older fork of tetrisconcept's wiki. Some community members wanted to create a wiki not affiliated with tetrisconcept.net or Hard Drop in an attempt to create a neutral territory. A variety of problems were raised to promote the movement such as, the intrusive ads on tetris.wikia.com,
Some Hard Drop community members were against the merge, including Caffeine.
Caffeine, who gave permission to Fandom to start an offshoot of the original Tetris Wiki, contacted Fandom in hopes of shutting it down. Fandom declined saying that they wanted to keep it running. Blink also declined stating that he did not see any strong benefits that would make it worth it.[1]
The three wikis: 2015–present
In 2015 tetrisconcept.net's wiki was exported and shutdown to create Tetris.wiki, which tetriswiki.com now points to.
Along with Tetris.wiki, the other two wikis, Hard Drop Tetris Wiki, and Tetris Wiki Fandom, remain today.
